Pre-painted steel sheet combines durability with beauty. It is widely applied in our life and industry, including building materials, automobiles, home appliances, etc. Gnee Steel supplies a variety of color-coated steel sheets made of different base metals, including cold rolled steel, galvanized, galvalume, and stainless steel sheets. Also, you can find both plain sheets and profile sheets. Besides that, we can also customize the size, design, color, and paintings upon your requirements. Below are some basic parameters for your reference.
We offer a variety of colors and printed patterns to choose from, such as signal blue, brick red, grey, orange, flower-pattern, wood grain, grass, etc. If you prefer other colors or patterns, please send us a RAL color code or a sample. We will give you a satisfactory color design back.

Pre painted steel sheet is made from color coated steel coils through shearing and profiling. Compared to color coated coils, it is more suitable for end-users. From the design, we have colour coated plain sheet and color coated profile sheet to choose from. Besides, we offer custom designs according to your requirements. Both of them are widely used in construction, office, commercial and other fields.
Due to its simple design and flat surface, it is often used in large public buildings, mobile houses, furniture, home appliances, elevator, advertising boards, storefront signboards, etc.
There are many different designs of profile sheets, such as trapezoidal design, wavy design, etc. Commonly, color coated profile sheets are widely used in roofing and wall of industrial and civil buildings, warehouses, roller shutters, etc.
Plain and profile sheets are very similar. They have the same characteristics, like light in weight, high strength, beautiful appearance, etc. You can choose according to your needs and preference.
Color coated sheets can be seen everywhere. It is because of its advantageous features, such as:
You can choose any color upon RAL Color, as well as custom patterns, according to your needs. The good-looking surface makes the color coated sheet decorative. So it can be used directly in many areas.
The pre-painted steel sheet, including PPGL sheet and PPGI steel, employs a continuous coil coating method, which makes its surface glossy, without cracking or peeling. Also, it can keep color for at least 10 years.
Colour coating sheet keeps the mechanical performance of the base metal, such as tensile strength. Moreover, the application of coating can protect the surface from rust, which can prolong its usage life. Research shows that the service life of color coated steel is 50% longer than that of galvanized steel.
Unlike coils, color coated sheet is a kind of finished product. It means it can be used directly in many industries. Considering its light in weight, it is portable to install. Also, there is no need for extra decoration because of its beautiful appearance. Moreover, it requires less maintenance during the service life.
It is important to consider the application when choosing color coated steel sheet.
1. What will you use it for? For different purposes, you may need different designs, colors, materials, etc.
2. Where will you use it? The use environment, such as rural or urban, industrial or marine areas, the humidity, illumination, acid, alkali, salt, etc., will largely influence the service life.
3. How will you use it, using it directly or after further processing? Then you need to consider the processibility. Below let’s review the differences.
We often use galvanized sheet (PPGI) or Al-Zn coated steel sheet (PPGL) as substrate. GI is applying zinc coating to steel, while the coating of GL is composed of 55% aluminum and 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon. By comparison, GL is of good heat and corrosion resistance. It can be used at a high temperature of 315℃. And it is about four times more corrosion resistant than GI so that its service life can reach up to 25 years under normal conditions. More than that, with the same thickness, its weight is much lighter. So their uses are different. For example, GL is widely used in chimney pipes, microwave ovens, and lampshades, etc. While its cost is also more expensive than that of GI. Except for special uses, using GI as a substrate is more cost-effective.
Items | Thickness (mm) | Weight (g/m2) |
GI | 0.6 | 200 |
GL | 0.6 | 350 |
The common coatings are polyester (PE), silicone modified polyester (SMP), high durability polyester (HDP), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). For different uses, the requirements are also different. For example, coating resistance is the first consideration for public and civil buildings. Therefore, PVDF or HDP is a better choice. While for smelting plants, corrosion resistance will be more important than color retention.
The PE paint is cheap, but it is easy to be processed and it has good adhesion. But the UV resistance and chalking resistance are poor. So is not suitable for a severely corrosive environment.
SMP has better durability, but the cost is higher than that of PE coating. Also, its adhesion and formability are not as good as PE. It is mainly used in outdoor constructions.
It is more corrosion resistant and processibility than PE and SMP coatings. Also, the available color is more than PVDF. Also, it is more cost-effective.
PVDF coatings have great color retention and corrosion resistance. So it is mainly applied to industrial and commercial wall cladding or roof, etc.
Except for the type of coating, it is also necessary to consider the thickness. Both substrate and coating can be customized upon your needs, as well as paint brands, such as Akzo Nobel and Nippon. Generally, both sides of the pre-painted steel sheet are coated twice. And the back coating thickness is from 5-14 μm, while the top one is from 11 to 35 μm. 1. Pay more attention to the quality rather than the price.
2. Confirm the quality standards before the purchase. Also, if possible, check the factory on site.
3. For the same project, it is better to buy the same batch of products from the same manufacturer to avoid color differences.
4. If you have any questions, please contact us for some professional tips. We are also looking forward to visiting us on site.
The thickness of colour coated steel sheet is between 0.12 mm and 1.2 mm. It is very thin, but it consists of several layers, including base metal, zinc coatings, chemical conversion coatings, primer coatings, and finish coatings. Below is a picture for your reference.
