Differences and uses of hot-rolled galvanized sheets and cold-rolled galvanized sheets
In the regular transactions of galvanized sheets, cold-rolled basic galvanizing is the main one, and hot-rolled base sheets are relatively rare.
So, what is the difference between hot-rolled base sheets and cold-rolled base sheets? Let’s briefly explain it from the following aspects:
1. Cost
Because there is one less process than cold-rolled substrates, the production cost of galvanizing hot-rolled substrates is lower than
that of cold rolling, mainly due to annealing costs and cold-rolling costs. The other processes are similar.
2. Quality performance
Because the hot-rolled substrate only undergoes pickling and annealing to remove surface impurities, its surface is relatively rough,
the zinc layer has better adhesion, and the coating thickness tends to be 140/140g/m2. However, the thickness dimension is not as
precise as cold rolling. Since most of them are thick zinc layers, the zinc layer thickness control is also uneven. There is not much
difference in mechanical properties, and some properties are even better than cold rolling.
3. Application fields
Hot-rolled base galvanized sheets are not as good as cold-rolled base sheets in terms of dimensional accuracy and surface quality,
but are thicker than cold-rolled galvanized sheets. Therefore, they are often used in structural components with low surface requirements
but high strength and thickness requirements.
For example, structural parts of washing machines, refrigerators and other home appliances, automobile interior structural parts, automobile
chassis structural parts, passenger compartment bodies and roofs, highway guardrails, cold-formed steel, etc.
Because the cost of hot-rolled galvanized sheets is low, and with the advancement of technology,
the specifications and thickness are getting larger and larger, and the usage is gradually increasing.
