What materials are used for car bodies?

The car body, as an important part of the car, plays an important role in displaying the styling art and characteristics of the vehicle. It constitutes the riding space and riding environment for members, and at the same time meets the requirements for design, production, assembly, maintenance and use, and safety. Therefore, the selection and application of body materials is particularly important.

The metal materials used in car bodies, such as heavy metals such as steel plates and cast iron, have high strength and stiffness and can meet the requirements of the body structure. At the same time, these metal materials also have good corrosion resistance and stretchability, which can effectively protect members inside the car body. In addition, these metal materials are easy to weld and process, thereby reducing production costs.

In addition to metallic materials, non-metallic materials are also widely used in car bodies. Non-metallic materials such as engineering plastics, fibers, resins, glass, and rubber are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and easy to process, and can meet the high-performance requirements of modern car bodies. At the same time, the emergence of new materials such as non-metallic foam materials and non-metallic composite materials has also provided more choices for the design and manufacturing of car bodies.

Usage classification of car body materials:

1. Steel plates: including hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel plates. After surface treatment (such as plating), they can be divided into galvanized steel plates, aluminum-plated steel plates, etc.; there are also stainless steel plates, high-strength steel plates, etc. After stamping, cutting and welding, these steel plates can be made into body parts such as doors, roofs, and hoods.

2. Light metal materials: mainly aluminum plates, aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys and titanium alloys. These light metal materials have the advantages of light weight, high strength, and corrosion resistance, so they are widely used in body structures, wheels, and engine components.

3. Composite materials: including glass fiber reinforced materials (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced materials (CFRP), etc. These composite materials have the advantages of high strength, lightweight and corrosion resistance, and are commonly used in body panels, frames and engine components.

4. Non-metallic materials: such as glass, plastic, rubber, leather, artificial leather, chemical fiber, etc. These non-metallic materials are widely used in body interiors, windows, seats, instrument panels and other parts.

5. Padding materials: including leather, cardboard, cork, asbestos, artificial leather, foam plastic, etc. These lining materials are mainly used for interior decoration, shock absorption and sound insulation.

6. Coating materials: mainly composed of oil, resin, pigments, thinners, auxiliary materials, etc. Including primer, topcoat, putty, auxiliary materials, etc. These coating materials are used for coating the exterior surfaces and interior parts of the vehicle body to achieve the purpose of aesthetics, anti-corrosion and vehicle protection.

7. Interior materials: including various fabrics, leather, soft materials, plastics, etc. These interior materials are used in vehicle interior decoration, such as seats, carpets, door panels, steering wheels, etc.

8. Adhesives: including sealants, adhesives, etc. These adhesives are used for bonding, sealing and fixing car bodies and interior parts.

Compared with hot-rolled mild steel plates, cold-rolled mild steel plates have better processing performance and beautiful surfaces. Materials such as Q215, carbon steel and low alloy structural steel cold-rolled steel plates, 10F, 08F, high-quality carbon structural steel cold-rolled thin steel plates, etc., are mainly used for body outer panels, parts shells, roof panels, trunk lids, Engine hood, door inner and outer panels, bumpers, fenders, etc. High-strength steel plates have very high tensile strength and extremely strong resistance to damage. They are mainly used in body outer panels, fenders and other parts. Surface-treated steel, including galvanized steel sheets, zinc powder-coated steel sheets, etc., has excellent anti-corrosion properties and is mainly used in car doors, roof linings, lower fenders, underbody and other parts.Want to know more, contact us now!

Brief Overview Of Cold Rolled Coil And Production
The cold rolled coil is made of hot rolled coil. In cold rolled process, the hot rolled coil is rolled below the recrystallization temperature, and the generally rolled steel is rolled at room temperature. Steel sheet with high silicon content has low brittleness and low plasticity, and needs to be preheated to 200 °C before cold rolling. Since the cold rolled coil is not heated during the production process, there are no defects such as pitting and iron oxide which are often found in hot rolling, and the surface quality and the finish are good.
