The galvanized layer is passivated to reduce fold rusting (white rust) under damp temperature storage and transportation conditions. However, the corrosion protection of this chemical treatment is limited and, moreover, hinders the adhesion of most coatings. This treatment is generally not used on zinc-iron alloy coatings, except for bright finishes, and as a rule, manufacturers passivate all other types of galvanized coatings.
