Cold-rolled coils are a steel product produced by applying plastic deformation to hot-rolled steel on cold-rolling mills. With such processing, the product can have more accurate dimensional tolerances, better surface quality and improved mechanical properties as compared with hot-rolled coils. Cold rolling is also used to make thinner coils than hot-rolling mills can currently produce (less than 0.8-1.0 mm).

Coils are divided into chilled coils and cold rolled coils. The difference between the two is that in appearance, the general chilled coil is slightly black; the surface quality, structure, and dimensional accuracy of the cold-rolled sheet are better than that of the chilled coil; in terms of performance, because the hot-rolled coil goes through the cold rolling process The directly obtained chilled coils undergo work hardening during cold rolling, resulting in an increase in yield strength and some residual internal stress, and the external performance is relatively “hard”, so it is called chilled coils.

Cold-rolled is processed from hot-rolled sheets at room temperature. Although the temperature of the steel sheet will be heated during the processing, it is still called cold-rolled. Due to the continuous cold deformation of hot rolling, the mechanical properties are relatively poor and the hardness is too high. It must be annealed to restore its mechanical properties, and those without annealing are called hard rolled coils.
