What is tinplate coil?
Tinplate coil is a process of thinly coating tin (Sn) on steel coils or steel strips. Tinplate is a lightweight, cold-rolled low-carbon steel plate or strip coated on both sides with industrial pure tin. It combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, weldability and good appearance of tin. A wide variety of tinplate products exist today, customized to meet specific end-use requirements.
Tinplate rolls are widely used to manufacture various types of cans by welding or welding, and are characterized by an attractive metallic luster. By selecting the surface finish of the base steel plate, tinplate with various surface roughness can be produced. They have excellent paintability and printability, and can produce beautiful prints using a variety of paints and inks. By selecting the appropriate temper grade, a variety of appropriate formability, as well as the required strength after forming, can be obtained. Furthermore, by selecting an appropriate coating thickness, appropriate corrosion resistance to the container contents can be obtained.
The composition of the steel used in tinplate coils is strictly controlled, and depending on the grade selected and how it is processed, steel can be produced with varying formability (also known as tempering). Tinplate steel has a wide range of thicknesses, generally between 0.15 mm and 0.6 mm.
Tin plated steel rolls are mainly used for cans, bottoms and caps of glass bottles and jars. After tinplate is oxidized, the tin ions formed will inevitably migrate into the food material. This is a physical and chemical mechanism called the sacrificial anode effect, which can protect the underlying steel from corrosion by the food material. The dissolution of the tin prevents perforation of the can and prevents degradation (changes in color and flavor) of the contents during heat sterilization and storage, with a typical shelf life of 2 years.
GNEE STEEL can cut to the size you need and supply tinplate coils in various grades, sizes, and thicknesses. Our extensive tinplate coil inventory can efficiently meet your most challenging custom tinplate coil needs.
